Dear music friends,Popkomm 2011 is over. After three days of diversity, commotion and success most participants have had time to relax and now it’s time to take stock. How can we best characterise this international music business meeting? Facts, figures, opinions and experiences? All these details make up the big picture that we can now share with you since everything is under wraps. Finally we also really want to thank you for coming and supporting us making Popkomm what it is.Changes and challenges...What was the main talking point at Popkomm 2011? The continuous changes and challenges that the digital age brings to the music industry and of course a wealth of innovation, new ideas and opportunities. The main focus was on musical protagonists directly networking with the digital business. With the Popkomm Conference as well as the Networking_Gate and Media_Gate formats we have laid the foundations for the generation change and a communication platform for the music and technology industries – a sector that is continually gaining more importance.StatisticsThe facts and figures speak for themselves. At Popkomm there were 400 exhibitors with 65% of those coming from abroad. A total of 5,200 visitors came to the Berlin’s Tempelhof airport to initiate business, close contracts and discuss solutions for the challenges of the branch whilst also discovering new talent. At the Popkomm Showcases there were 115 acts from 26 countries and thus twice as many as last year. More than 700 individual meetings took place during the completely booked out Networking_Gate.QuotesThe variety and quality of Popkomm amazed the professionals: “After three years of a strong IT focus Popkomm 2011 was the ideal opportunity to present our extensive music platform to a larger audience” said Michael Schmid CEO of restorm.com /// “It was our first time at Popkomm and our expectations have been surpassed” Pablo Qadri, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Argentina /// “Popkomm 2011 has shown that Berlin is a central place for music. As an internet company the Media_Gate played a central role for us. Here in keynotes and meetings the challenges and opportunities in the ever changing music industry were clearly discussed”, Holger G. Weiss, Aupeo! Thanks! What would Popkomm be without our numerous supporters and friends! 55 partners accompanied us this year. Many thanks to our sponsors: mStore, Tour Alarm, Tshirt Store, Berliner Pilsner, Coca-Cola and Apollinaris.2012After this balance it is obvious that the next Popkomm is definitely on the way.
