Keynote by Robert Scoble – www.scobleizer.com – “The success of Scobleizer: Blogging in the U.S.”
Participants
Thomas Knüwer (blog.handelsblatt.de/indiskretion), Robert Basic (www.basicthinking.de/blog/), die US-Journalisten Harry McCracken (www.harrymccracken.com), Larry Magid und Steve Wildstrom (www.businessweek.com/technology/wildstrom.htm)
Moderator
Dave Graveline, host of Into Tomorrow, the radio network program that covers the latest in consumer electronics and technology
Synopsis:
- During the past few years blogging has dramatically changed the media landscape. In the past journalists were usually linked to a specific medium. Even if they worked as freelancers the publication of their stories depended on traditional media. Thanks to the internet today journalists are free to work wherever and whenever they want. Broadcasting their ideas and opinions is now just a question of internet connection.
- Furthermore blogging has not only changed the way of publishing but also the group of publishers itself. In the past mostly qualified and skilled journalists worked for the classic media. Today almost everyone can broadcast their ideas and work through blogs.
- Especially in the U.S. blogging has become very popular. Some of the blog stars earn a living with their online publications. In Germany, however, blogs are not as common and famous as in the U.S. Only one out of five Germans is reading a blog once in a while (compared to the U.S. where one out of three is reading blogs).
- The panel will focus on the success of blogs, their chances and limits. Additionally the participants have the opportunity to discuss the differences between the blogging communities in the U.S. and Germany.
