Positive Feedback on Warsaw Trip
On January 10-11, 2012, a delegation from Berlin visited Warsaw, reciprocating the initial visit of Polish photonics industry representatives who came to Berlin at the end of November 2011.
In the framework of an Enterprise Europe Networks brokerage event, 35 talks between companies and research institutes in Berlin and Warsaw took place. One of the highlights of the sightseeing tour was a visit to many labs at the Warsaw University of Technology. The unanimous opinion of all the participants: The cooperation should be expanded. In this spirit, regularly scheduled workshops about specific topics have been planned. The first collaborative effort will be in the area of Gallium Nitride Semiconductor Technology at Laser Optics Berlin. A roadmap for strategic cooperation is currently being drawn up; it will be discussed at Laser Optics Berlin. Gerrit Rössler, Project Manager at TSB Innovationsagentur Berlin GmbH, summarizes: “The consistently positive feedback and explicit wish of the participants to establish a long-term cooperation between Warsaw and Berlin is the reason for working together with the OpTecBB competence network and partners from science, business and politics to create suitable conditions which would strengthen the connection in a sustainable way.”

Huge Interest in Trade Visitor Program
At the start of the year, the Laser Optics Berlin project team sent the trade visitor flyer to numerous potential participants in both Germany and many neighboring countries.
We have received very positive feedback: The optically attractive flyer offers an overview of the most important trade fair information. Alongside important dates, there is also a map of the exhibition grounds, a list of ticket prices and, most importantly, the range of products and services featured at the trade fair, including the expert forums and the accompanying conference program with the
OSA Optics and Photonics Congress and
microsys berlin. The flyer also shows the variety of services which could be of assistance in the search for qualified personnel. The exclusive trade visitor program proved to be of great interest to the flyer recipients. The program is free and includes
admission the grand opening evening party as well as a visit to either Germany’s largest technology park, in Berlin-Adlershof, or to the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration IZM. The number of participants is limited, so apply early.

The host organization, SPIE – The International Society for Optical Engineering – expects over 1,500 exhibitors and over 19,000 international trade visitors. Since 2004 Germany has been represented at Photonics West by a joint stand; this year, the biggest stand will once again be the “German Pavilion”. At stand number 4601 in North Hall, 54 German exhibitors will demonstrate their innovations over 418 m² of floor space. The list of exhibitors includes Astro- und Feinwerktechnik Adlershof GmbH, the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications Heinrich Hertz Institute, TSB Innovationsagentur Berlin GmbH and WISTA-Management GmbH.
